For this project I examine 4 children, who share a mother but not a father. By creating a series of 4 jigsawed portraits, I emphasize each child’s individual features more than their faces as a whole. Each portrait also includes a piece of the mothers face, as a representation of the person who connects them to one another. Through the absence of a full portrait of the mother, viewers are able to create a portrait of her in their minds using the provided portraits as a guide. This process of comparing each child’s features to one another and attempting to piece together what their mom might look like demonstrates how a parent becomes a literal and physical part of their children.
